The friendly service on the reception arranges everything for your Laos visa for you (USD, Visa…). The short way of about 50 meter to the waterside of the river is just one reason to choose this accommodation here in Chiang Khong on the Mekong in north Thailand. The restaurant of the Namkhong Guest House in Chiang Khong is open till midnight and shows every evening movie in English and Thai subtitles. We fell good here at Namkhong accommodation and will check in if we travel again to this cozy village in Thailand.

Pak Beng is a small city in the Udomxai province of Laos PDR. This village is on the half way from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang. Many tourists come for one night for a break of their Mekong river tour from Thailand to LP in north Laos PDR. The most hotels and guest houses here in Pak Beng are on the bank of the Mekong. Direct on the Mekong bank road, not far from the jetty for the slow boats from Huayxai to Luang Prabang, is the Phetsokxai Hotel located. This middle class Hotel in Pakbeng in Laos have nice wooden rooms with hot shower, TV, Fan and a great view over the Mekong delta. The price was 20 USD in the middle of 2009. Not the cheapest accommodation but a good option for backpackers on their way through Laos PDR in SE Asia. Around the Phetsokxai Hotel in Pak Beng are a lot of good restaurants for a romantic dinner with view to the river. The electricity here in this village is rare but this Hotel offer electric from 6 to 12 o’clock in night with generators. The Phetsokxai is a good choice for all who want to have accommodation with a bit comfort after a hard and long boat trip on the Mekong.

The Lao airlines operates nearly every airport in Laos PDR with domestic and international flights to many destinations in Southeast Asia. We flown from Luang Prabang in Laos to Chiang Mai in september 2009 with Lao Airline. The fee was about 100 USD. On board of the plane was enough space between the seat rows. The board service was friendly and helpful. The food was fresh and totally enough for a flight of 50 minutes, the service employees came two times for serve drinks. I will choose Lao Airline again for flights to Laos PDR. We enjoyed the traveling with this small but nice airline.

Mor Paeng Waterfall – Pai – North Thailand

Mor Paeng Waterfall, Pai

Mor Paeng Waterfall, Pai

The Nam Tok Mor Paeng is about 8 km out of Pai city in Thailand’s Maehongson province. On the way to this peaceful place you will pass Thale Mhog Bungalows and the Chinese village next to Pai. This waterfall is free, but take some money if you want to stop somewhere at one of the restaurants to buy some cool drinks or have lunch. The Mor Paeng waterfall is about 15 meter high and is for me one of Pai’s main attractions. Here you will find a lonely place to read a book, relax or just listen to to sound of nature. The surrounding landscapes are dominated by mountains and high and old trees which spend you shadow from the Asian sun. In front of this waterfall in Mae Hongson province in north Thailand is a jungle pool witch invite the visitors to swim, so toke your swimming gear if you want to refresh under the fresh water of the Nam Tok Mo Paeng. The best way to come here is by bike or motorbike. Have fun and enjoy this great travel destination in north Thailand!

Lamphun – North Thailand

The rope of monks in Lamphun

The rope of monks in Lamphun

In the middle of July 2009 we went for a daytrip to the capital of the Lamphun province in north Thailand. We rent a motorbike in Chiang Mai to travel to this peaceful city names Lamphun.  Here living about 15000 habitats. The town in the north of this beautiful Kingdom is famous for old and historical Buddhist temples. The most traveler and tourist who stay in Lamphun visit the Wat Phra That Hariphunchai and the Wat Chama Thewi Temple from the 12th century. When we arrived we had a traditional Thai breakfast in a cozy Restaurant.  After breakfast we travel to the Wat Phra Yuen temple who is build in the 7th century by Queen Chamthewi, the first ruler of Hariphunchai, the former name of Lamphun, after she ruled for eight years. Some historians believe that King Amikaraj of Hariphunchai build this temple around 700 years before.

However, this Buddhist monument in north Thailand is for me one of the highlights of Lampun. Here on this peaceful place you can find some lonely moments to relax and meditate. After we went to the Chama Thewi Temple. In the afternoon we drove back to Chiang Mai. On the way we stopped at Lotus Tesco for shopping and catch some food. The best way to come here from Chiang Mai is the bus. From Thailand’s Capital Bangkok you can take the night train which stops direct in Lamphun. In the center of this city in Thailand you will find many options to stay. A good option is the Da Lha Resort near the center. Take a look in your travel guide or contact a TAT booking office for more information’s about Lamphun in Southeast Asia.
