Tübingen
Tübingen is the right destination for all travelers who like lovely late medieval towns. Tubingen is famous for the university which was founded in 1477 by Count Eberhard the 4th of Wuttemberg. The historical old town of Tübingen invite for a shopping expedition surrounded by old timbered houses with small shops, restaurants, cafes and pubs. Tubingen in Baden Wüttemberg was the haunt of Goethe who published his first works here in south Germany. The most attractive sights for tourists and backpacker are the Schloss Hochtübingen, the museum of archaeology and Egyptology, the marketplace, the historical Rathaus from the 15th century and the Stiftskirche with its medieval glass windows.
If you spent some days here it’s worth to rent a car and explore the beautiful environment around the Neckar river here in Swabia. In Tübingen are a lot hotels and hostels in all ranges. Good places to go out are the JazzKeller with live music, the Hades where you can enjoy German beer and the Collegium which serve typical Swabian food and local wine like in a “Besenwirtschaft“. Tübingen is just 40 km from Stuttgart and easy to reach by bus train and of course by car.
