Many people disbelieve that Chiang Mai in north Thailand has Nightlife. Compared to the Party strongholds like Phuket or Pattaya they are right, here in Chiang Mai is the Night Life much quieter and with a bit more relaxer! But here at the “Capital of the North” are many possibilities to go out, clubbing or date a Bar Girl in one of Chiangmai’s numerous Dance Clubs, Pubs, Lady Bars, Karaoke Clubs and A GoGo Bars. The biggest Nightlife scene offers the area between Tha Pae gate and the Night Bazaar in the east of the city moat of Chiang Mai in Thailand. There are some nice locations for dancing, meet young Thai ladies or just drink a beer and listen to good live music in an unforced atmosphere.

Old Chiang Mai, inside the Moat:
Inside the moat are some great Pubs, Bars and Beer gardens which are worthwhile for a visit after dark. Mostly every Guest House of Chiang Mai has as well a small Pub, Beer garden or Restaurant where you can drink Beers and meet likes minded Backpacker and Traveler. For great Cocktails and selected Wines with style I can recommend the “Kafe Del Klang Wiang” Bar and Restaurant near Wat Phan Ang. If don’t get enough Party than is the 24 hours Pub “Blue Sky” a nice alternative to go to bed.

Nighlife around the Night Bazaar:
At long the famous Bazaar in Chiang Mai are some nice Restaurants and Bars who will escort you through the night. The most Pubs and Bars have a Restaurant too. The International Restaurants, Pubs and Beer Gardens like “German Hofbrauhaus”, “Dukes” or “O’Malley’s Irish Pub” serve in addition with imported Beers, western and International dishes. Here are for sure not the cheapest Nightlife locations in CM, but around the Night Bazaar you can accept a bit more of service and the coast performance ratio for the selected European dishes is still good. For Clubbing is the “Club Martini” a good address. This Club offer Live Music of a Dj and Shisha water pipes in a Chill out area.

Bars and Restaurants on the Mae Ping River:
On the eastern bank of the Mae Nam Ping are some night clubs and romantic Restaurants for a Candle Light Dinner in Chiang Mai. The best Restaurants for Couples are “The Good View” and “Brasserie”. Both serve well selected dishes in a great quality next to the Mae Ping in Chiang Mai in Thailand. These Restaurant’s with view over the Mae Nam Ping River are very popular and it’s recommended to reserve a table if you want to dine direct on the river. For clubbing next to the river is “The Riverside” a good and popular address.

Narucha Beauty

Narucha Beauty

Naruncha Beauty on the Ratchapakinai Rd. in central Chiang Mai is one of the best Massage shops in town. It opens every day from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm. Here at this Massage studio you get Thai Massages, Aroma Oil Massages, Hot Stone Aroma Massage… from well trained masseuses. Huay Tung Tao, Chiang Mai in Thailand

Huay Tung Tao Park

Huay Tung Tao Park

Huay Tung Tao is a large area with woodland and a huge lake. It’s popular and mostly used for running and bicycling for many locals from Chiang Mai and a few Tourists. Around the Lake at Huay Tueng Tao are many Restaurants which have the tables on cosy bamboo floats and a great view over the Huay Tung Tao Lake. Some Thai locals come for fishing, picnic or to worship to Buddha statue next to the lake of this nature reservoir near Chiang Mai in Thailand.

The Travel Agency in the Rachdomnern Road offers all kind of tour booking in northern Thailand. Here you can get information’s about any destination in Thailand and especially about Chiang Mai’s environment. Adventure Tours has a friendly and qualified service which explains you travel possibilities around Chiang Mai. My favorites here are the Doi Inthanon National Park, Mae Hong Son, Phrae and the Caves at Chiang Dao. Another recommendation are the longneck Karen villages here in this area in South East Asia. The well English speaking staff will satisfy your claims for unforgettable culture holidays in northern Thailand.

Chiang Mai Adventure Tours and Thai Language Center

Chiang Mai Adventure Tours and Thai Language Center

Thai Language Center in Chiang Mai:
Why not learn how to speak, write and read Thai? The Thai Language Center in Chiang Mai offer good structured Thai Language classes in all levels. The small classes of maximum 6 people promise a learning success in a short time. Usually the Thai lessons are everyday two hours from Monday to Friday. I paid for a Thai Language Course of three weeks 3000 Baht in 2009. If you want to learn more or less than you can choose the private Thai Lessons which was in 09 250 Baht per hour. At the private lessons of a well qualified Thai Language Teacher you can define the learning target. I did a beginner course and some private lessons at the Language Center and I don’t repent my choice of this Thai School in Chiang Mai.

Wat Arun Rachawararam in Bangkok

Wat Arun in Bangkok

Wat Arun in Bangkok

Wat Arun Rachawararam is also known as “The Temple of Dawn” or just Wat Arun. This beautiful temple on the bank of the Choa Praya is built in Thailand’s Ayutthaya period as “Wat Makok”. King Taksin renamed this Buddhist temple in Bangkok to “Wat Jeng” when Thonburi become the capital of Thailand. King Rama II let renovate Wat Arun and give it the name “Wat Ratchataram”. Under King Rama IV it becomes the present name “Wat Arun Rachawaram”. Many believers come here to this holy place in Bangkok to worship Buddha. The foreigners come to see the adorned holy stupa and the stone statures. Especially at sunset is the Wat Arun a magnificent model for beautiful holiday pictures. After a visit at this temple on the west bank I will recommend a visit at Wat Pho which is just on the other side of the Chao Praya River in Bangkok and good to reach by ferry.

Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok

Wat Phra Kaew Temple

Wat Phra Kaew Temple

The full name is actually Wat Phra Sri Rattana Sasdaram but this temple in Bangkok is better known as Wat Phra Kaew temple. This imposing temple in Thailand’s Capital is on the same compound as the Royal Grand Palace.  King Rama the first gave the mandate to build this holy Buddhist monument. Many tourists come here to see the Emerald Buddha, Golden Buddha statues, Golden stupas, the impressive statures of all eight Kings of the Chakri dynasty and many other beautiful and impressive monuments and holy places. Worshippers come to pay their respect of “Phra Kaew Morakot” (The Emerald Buddha) and to the most hallowed compound in Thailand where the ashes of many former Monarchs are enshrined. The Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok is a great destination for all who like to see a grandiose temple and learn something about Thai culture. The River Express is the cheapest possibility to reach the Phra Kaew Temple. Taxis and Tuk Tuks are a bit more expansive and mostly slower because of the traffic in central Bangkok.

Wat Srisuphan Temple in Chiang Mai

Wat Srisuphan in Chiang Mai

Wat Srisuphan in Chiang Mai

In 1502 the first pure silver ordination hall in world was build here at Wat Srisuphan in Chiang Mai. The Buddhist Temple in Laana style is a bit in south of the moat near Pratu Chiang Mai. Here you can come for a conversation with the Monks in English language. The “Chat with the Monks” is every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 5:30 – 07:00 pm at the silver temple Wat Srisuphan. This is a good chance to ask the Buddhist Monks about Thai culture, life as a monk in north Thailand, meditation or other thinks where you are interested in. This Sisuphan temple is as well famous for the public meditations three times per week. Everybody is welcome to join. The great silver ordination hall has a dimension of 5 meters wide and 18 meters long.

The Buddha image inside the temple look very beautiful, the contrast of the silver to the gold let him appear and silhouetted against other temples in Chiang Mai or somewhere in Thailand.

Doi Inthanon National Park in Chiang Mai

For Chiang Mai Hotels click here.

Thailand’s highest mountain is a great alternation to temples and markets in Chiang Mai. From Chiang Mai city you can take the public bus from pratu Chiang Mai to Chom Thong. From Chom Tong it’s easy to reach the Doi In by Sawngthaew. If you want to have it a bit easier than you can book a daytrip tour from CM town. Another option is traveling by car; the Doi In is about 80 km away from CM. Many tour operators drive to the most beautiful spots of the Doi Inthanon National Park in northern Thailand. The most magnificent sights are the 2509 meter high apex of the mountain, the Great Holy Relics Pagoda of Nabhamethanidol – Nabhapolbhumisiri, Karen and Hmog hill tribe villages, Doi Inthanon Royal Project and great waterfalls.

The highest Mountain in Thailand:
The highest spot in Thailand is very famous for the beautiful nature. About 400 bird species, moss, orchids and many rare animals like Gibbon Monkeys and Asian black bears are at home at the apex of the Doi In in Chiangmai. On the apex there is a visitor center and a coffee shop where you can rewarm yourself. If you come here than it’s recommended to bring a jacked or a warm pullover, the temperatures here at Doi Inthanon are around 10 degrees Celsius.

Wachirathan Waterfall

Wachirathan Waterfall

Waterfalls at Doi Inthanon:
The most visited waterfalls at Doi Inthanon are Wachirathan Waterfall, Nam Tok Mae Pan, Siriphurn Waterfall and the Nam Tok Mae Ya which is with 280 meters the highest in this 482 quadrate kilometer big national park in Thailand’s Chiang Mai province. My favorites are the Mae Ya and the Wachiratan which exhibit some shops for fresh coffee and other beverages.

The Great Holy Relics Pagoda of Nabhamethanidol – Nabhapolbhumisiri:

This spot was one of our highlights at Doi Inthanon National Park. The Royal Thai Air Force constructed the beautiful stupa to commemorate the 60th birthday anniversary of HM King Bhumibol Adulyadej in December 1987. 5 years later the Royal Air Force builds the Phra Mahathat Naphapholphumisiri to honor HM Queen Sirikit’s 60th birthday in 1992. At the Great Holy Relics Pagoda are beautiful flower gardens which are really worthwhile to visit. The small restaurant invites tourists for food, drinks and to buy souvenirs. This place becomes very beautiful when the fog lying over this spot on the Doi Inthanon near Chiang Mai.

The Garden at The Great Holy Relics Pagoda

Karen villages:
Many day trips stop at one of the hill tribe villages of the Doi Inthanon, here you can watch the all day life of the Karen and buy some handmade souvenirs. For us it was not that interesting because we were already at a Karen village at Ban Nai Soi near Mae Hongson. But still, it’s a nice destination for all who want to see the traditional life of Karen minorities here in the northern Thailand.

Doi Inthanon National Park is a great trip for all Nature fans in northern Thailand. The tour prices are about 1000 to 1500 Thai Baht including lunch and drinks. For us it is one of Chiang Mais main attractions and a worthwhile trip for all tourists in Chiangmai in the North of Thailand.
