Chiang Mai Zoo

Chiang Mai Zoo

Chiang Mai Zoo

The Zoo in Chiang Mai is about 10 km out of town on the foot of Doi Suthep and easy to visit by songteaw taxi or motorscooter. This Zoo in Thailand is famous for the beautiful landscapes and the diversity of species and of course for the Panda baby which is born here in 2009. You can walk all day through the rangy Zoo without see the same. The Chiang Mai Zoo is home for many national and international animals like: giraffes, hippos, lions, panda bears, monkeys (Gibbon, Oran Utah’s…), penguins,  birds, insects, snakes and many many more. The entry fee was in 2008 about 3 USD, so really cheap for one of the biggest attractions in Chiang Mai in north Thailand. The newest attraction in 2009 is among the new born panda the huge aquarium with much kind of fresh and saltwater fishes. As well a Mekong theme bowl you can gaze here. All over the area are small restaurants and shops where you can buy some refreshments, food and souvenirs. The Zoo is a nice option if you stay in Chiangmai with your family and getting bored of temples and shopping. The prices are acceptable and the journey is easy, so perfect for a great day on your holiday in Asia!

Phrae in North Thailand

Phae Meuang Phi National Park

Phae Meuang Phi National Park

The Phrae province in the north of Thailand is one of the less visited provinces in the Kingdom. Just some traveler, backpacker and culture tourists come here to watch the beautiful Asian temple and the Phae Meuang Phi, which is one of the landmarks of Phrae in Thailand. The oldest temple is the Wat Luang from the 12th century. My favorite temple of the Phrae province was the Wat Phra Suthon Mongkon Kiri. You will recognize this great holy place because of the huge reclining Buddha image witch you can see from the highway to Phrae.

Wat Phra Suthon Mongkon Kiri Temple

Wat Phra Suthon Mongkon Kiri Temple

The Phra Suthon Mongkon Kiri temple is a nice daytrip with by motorbike if you stay here some days. Another nice destination for temple fans is the Wat Phra That Cho Hae temple about 10 km out of town which is famous for the Phra Jao Than Jai Buddha. But our highlight on this travel trip to Phrae was the Phae Meuang Phi national park with his pillars of earth and stone which look like huge mushrooms. The Meuang Pi park is easy to reach by taxi, if you want to save money you can go as well with the bus from the bus terminal at the center. Some view points and rest stations invite for a picnic. Inside the town are some possibilities to stay. Thip Vong Place, Paradorn Hotel, Maeyom Palace Hotel and Nakhon Phrae Tower are just some of the accommodation options here in this city in north Thailand. We sleep at a friend in a wooden house a bit out from the historical moat near the market. Prae is a great destination for all people who like temples and beautiful landscapes and a nice travel stop for backpackers on their way through SE Asia. From here you can easy travel to: Lamphun, Chiang Mai, Laos… Have fun and enjoy your backpack tour!

The most people come here to rest for a while from the shopping “adventure” on the night market. As well sport fans come here to watch Premier League, Formula one, Rugby, Golf… live on screen. From the terrace of the O’Malley’s Irish Pub and Restaurant in Chiang Mai you have a good view over the market stalls, the friendly service here in this pub in Chiang Mai in the north of Thailand serve the pints till 2am in night. The prices are ok for this location, I paid for a pint of Guinness 190 Thai baht, and the local beers are of course cheaper.

Maa-T-Nee Guest House, Chiang Mai

Maa-T-Nee Guest House

Maa-T-Nee Guest House

In the north of old Chiang Mai in Thailand is the small Guest House “Maa-T-Nee”. The Hostel for backpacker and students has easy but cheap rooms with hot water shower, TV and a fridge. If you want to check in here at Martini you can get out of songteaw at Siam TV and from there it’s a 50 meter walk in the Wiang Keaw Road. Maa-T-Nee in Chiangmai in the north of Thailand offer daily – weekly and monthly room prices. We paid in 2009 3500 Thai Baht for a room with air condition per month. The rooms with fan were 2500 excluded electricity and water. This accommodation is not the best but one of the cheapest Hosels here in central Chiang Mai. From Maa-T-Nee Guest House it’s not far too many attractions like Wat Phra Sing, Sunday Waking Street or the Morntharan Temple in the old city. This is the right option for traveler and longtime tourists who look for a cheap Hostel in the heart of Chiang Mai Town in Thailand.

Now, about 500 years still many believers and tourist comes to visit the holy Buddha images here in this Buddhist temple in Chiangmai. Wat Morntheran Temple, Chiang Mai

The big Buddha image of the Morntheran Temple

The big Buddha image of the Morntheran Temple

The best way to explore the beautiful Buddhist temple “Wat Morntheran” is by taxi, motorbike or by foot. The temple is direct on the north side of the old city ditch of Chiang Mai in north Thailand. You will recognize the Wat Morntheran because of the huge Buddha statue in front of the temple here in Thailand. It is a small but nice temple with many decorations and many things to explore. Not many tourists come here, so you will find some lonely moments to rest and meditate here at Mornteran in Chiangmai. We like this place because of the peaceful atmosphere and the beautiful architecture. Please don’t forget to show off your shoes and wear adequate cloth if you go into the Wat, in the main it’s a holy place and not a tourist attraction!
